Meet the founder
Hans founded Kogna after decades of witnessing the same structural inefficiencies across global tax processes. As Partner and Director of Innovation at Ernst & Young, he worked closely with Fortune 500 organisations and saw how fragmented data, manual reconciliations and outdated tooling created unnecessary friction. He recognised the opportunity to merge deep tax expertise with modern data technology and set out to build a company that could finally close that gap.
With more than thirty years in the tax domain, Hans brings a rare combination of domain mastery, innovation leadership and first-hand understanding of the day-to-day challenges tax professionals face. His experience continues to shape Kogna’s focus on building reliable, automation-driven solutions that bring clarity and confidence to reporting and compliance.
Technology leadership
To scale that vision, Hans partnered with Laurens, who joined as CTO and partner. Laurens has spent nearly three decades building and modernising platforms for multinational organisations, leading engineering teams and designing cloud architectures that simplify complex data workflows. His approach blends strong technical foundations with the practical structures teams need to work well together. This includes a clear way of working, a culture of ownership and a rhythm that keeps delivery predictable and
collaborative.
Together, Hans and Laurens combine deep tax expertise with modern engineering and organisational clarity. Their shared goal is to deliver technology and culture that transform how global tax teams work, replacing manual effort with structure, automation and trust.
